La Vergne has been named to Forbes Magazine's Top 100 list in the area of fastest growing suburbs. It came in at number 61, ahead of Farmington, Minn. and just below O'Fallon, Mo. The web site .www.forbes.com said La Vergne's population in 2000 was 18,935 and in 2006 was 27,255. That's a 43.9% increase, the web site said. By the way, Farmington and O'Fallon had the same percentage of increase.
Alyssa K. Nantz, of La Vergne, daughter of Wendell G. Nantz has been selected to participated in the 2008 Miss Tennessee USA/Teen USA The pageant will take place Oct. 4-6 in Clarksville.
She will be competing as Miss Rutherford County USA and will compete in swimsuit, evening gown and personal interview competitions. The pageant has two age divisions and the winners will go on to represent Tennessee in the 2008 Miss USA and Miss Teen USA Pageant. Miss USA goes on to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant.
The Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageant system stresses good morals, physical fitness, communications skills and social awareness and community involvement.
Interesting facts about Alyssa is that she graduated in the top 10 percent of her 2006 La Vergne High School class, receiving the Hope Scholarship and now attends Motlow State community college, majoring in Dental Hygiene.

There was a drive-by shooting in Lake Forest Estates this morning, according to Mayor Ronnie Erwin. The shooting, which took place in the David's Way/Eden Lane area of the giant subdivision, damaged the home of Pam McKenzie, a Neighborhood Watch block captain. No injuries were reported at this time.
A 17-year old -- McKenzie's son -- was the apparent target of the attack, which damaged the upstairs, windows and doors of the home. Approximately 14 rounds were shot during the drive-by.
The suspects -- juveniles (two girls and one boy)-- were caught after the incident and are currently in juvenile detention. One of the girls involved claimed gang affiliation. The juveniles are scheduled to appear in juvenile court at 1 p.m. Friday.
The La Vergne First United Methodist Church, located at 248 Waldron Road in La Vergne, will have its annual Fall Fest at the church on Sept. 29, 2007. Guitarist Lance Allen will perform at the festival at 10 a.m.
The annual festival, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m., will consist of games, music, a huge flea market, bake sale and silent auction.

The city of La Vergne is one of three area cities which is being sued by Metro Nashville because they refused to pay sewer rates from Metro Nashville because they said the rates were elevated and not explained or justified to them.
Brentwood and Millersville are also a part of the suit. Brentwood owes just over $1 million, La Vernge just under $1 million and Millersville owes $90,000 for the same services. In addition, Metro alleges that La Vergne and Brentwood owe more than $2 million each and Millersville owes $700,000 for infrastructure improvements.
According to the Daily News Journal, "the cities being sued insist the new rates are not proportionate to the service they receive and the wear and tear those services place on the infrastructure."
The cities contract with Metro sewer expired last year and they have since banded together to form the Metro Sewer Users Association.
"The Metro City Council, during its June 26 meeting, adopted a bill authorizing services increases of 150%," the Daily News Journal said.
A two-year-old girl has died as a result of drowning in a La Vergne pool.
La Vergne Police said that the child -- who was being watched by a teenager -- drowned after the floation devices she was using slipped off her arms.
The child was transported by helicopter to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Venderbilt, where she later died.
Sign-ups are on-going for the La Vergne Adult Softball league's Fall 2007 season.
To register, teams must fill out an application from now through Aug. 10 and pay the league fee of $410 to reserve their spot. The fee includes the ASA sanction fee. All teams will receive a 12-game schedule.
Games will be on Monday and Tuesday nights for the Co-ed League and Wednesday and Thursday nights for the Men's League. All games will play by ASA rules and all balls must be 44 cor. 375 compression and 11 inches for women and 12 inches for men.The balls will alternate during Co-ed play.

Cristen McKay and Daniel Bratta of La Vergne announce the birth of a son, Daniel Joseph Bratta Jr., at 7:48 p.m. June 4. Born at StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna, the baby weighed 9 pounds.
His grandparents are Joseph and Cheryl Miller of La Vergne and John and Karen Bratta of Clermont, Fla.
He has one brother, Shaun Thomas McKay.
